Easter Eggs

The tradition of Easter eggs comes from an old Slavic custom dating back to pagan times. The best known example of them is the Ukrainian pysanka decorated using a wax-resist technique. I wanted to try something different this year, so I created a bunch of decoupaged eggs, applying tiny cutouts from pretty paper napkins to the undyded, white eggs.

Wall Art

There are so many options to choose from to dress your walls so selecting the right wall décor can be a tough decision to make. As for me, I went for something self-made. Collages are relatively easy to make and they may just seem a simple form of art craft, their appeal, however, is anything but. Not only do they exude a whimsical quality, they can also be strikingly odd and funny. They offer more flexibility for transforming the original meaning of images and fragments than any other medium. Anybody can do them, making the art of collage the perfect option to show off your creativity and artistic flair.

Pillow Covers

We just bought a patio storage bench, but still need new cushions. I might do them myself based on the design I made with the computer. The patterns (apart from the flowers) are taken from the book 'The Magic Chalk' by Zinken Hopp.

Preparing for Christmas Ahead of Time

It may now be too early to set up a Christmas tree, but for an alternate option, you can spray paint some branches white, then hang some ornaments, biscuits or candy canes on them to bring a touch of holiday magic into your home.

The Season of Advent

The season of Advent started today. It is a period of preparation before Christmas, and somehow, I enjoy it more than the holiday itself. There are so many holiday projects you can prepare by yourself to bring some festive cheer and seasonal warmth into your home décor.
I've crafted a candle holder from a recycled fence board and some scented candles lying around in our drawers. Our Chritmas center-piece is made up of evergreen branches, fresh fruits and orange pomanders that may last up to several years if made properly.

Breathing New Life Into Old Books

It's always worth rummaging through the discount section at used book shops; one can find books with damaged spines or missing inside pages for a song. Every book has a second life in which they are not meant for reading. If the cover is not damaged and has some kind of an appealing quality to it, it can be turned into a journal, sketchbook, recipe organizer, photo album, etc. These two below have been made for my former colleague as a farewell gift.
